Microfinance Bill 2007 that has been tabled in Parliament on March 20, 2007. SHGPF consider that the proposed bill will have tremendous damaging effect if accepted in its present form. At the same time we think there is a necessity to have conducive regulatory mechanism for the benefit of the poor and marginalised people to get easy, timely and collateral free financial services. There should be adequate safeguard in the bill so that the poor are not left with the financial service providers for their unfettered financial gains.

In order to understand the proposed bill appropriately and also to get suggestions from the policy makers, we organized a seminar with the concerned stakeholders, namely Members of Parliament, Senior Government Officials, Banks, SHG promoting institutions, and interested individuals.
