The forum has provided a space for its constituent members for sharing and working together on many accounts. Other than organising many workshops and
seminars, Forum has published few important resource materials and is regularly publishing its newsletter Swalpabitta Barta.
The collaboration with the WB
Women Development Undertaking for publishing their quarterly newsletter Swayamsiddha and the Radio episodes on Women Empowerment is very much noteworthy.
In one of its unique efforts, Forum has been organising workshops for the cluster/federation leaders. Through its approach and style, forum has already proved itself to be a
functionally useful spring-board in bringing the NGOsto work together on the development of SHG and its members.
Since its inception Forum has taken up several activities pertaining to the interest of the women SHG members. Some of them are:
State Women SHG conferences on annual basis
Promoting SHG as micro level community owned development units
Workshops on various issues such as on Gram Unnayan (GUS), women rights & leagal issues etc.
Interactive sessions with many policy makers including the newly formed Ministry for Self Help Groups and Self Employment
Materials Development - on training aids, for awareness on Gram Unnayan Samity, women's right etc.
Documentation & Desimination of various events
Publication of News letter (Swalpabitta Barta) for the SHG members
Promoting SHG activities through TV, Radio programmes and Print Media.
Undertaking various campaigns like "We Can Campaign" to end violence against women...
Encouraging Women Entrepreneurship by instituting a annual award for the best Entrepreneur.
As it is clear, SHGPF has been taking up many issues like Gram Unnayan Samity, violence against women, Right to Information Act, entitlement under NREGA and Right of Elders etc.
for wider dissemination and creating an empowring knowledge environment for the SHG members in particular and the community surrounding these SHGs in general.
Through a process of interactions, Forum has been able to place a "Charter of Actions" for the development of the SHG movement. This charter of actions encompasses roles of
SHG members, Federated SHG bodies (Cluster / Federation), NGOs and Self Helf Help Promoting Institutions, Bankers, Funding agencies (SIDBI, NABARD, NMDFC, International Donors etc.),
Panchayats and Government, Universities, Media and others.
